Adult Literacy Tutors

Adult Literacy Tutor and Student

Our volunteer tutors are the heart of the Adult Literacy Program and are the reason so many people come to us. If you have an interest in helping an adult improve their literacy or academic skills, please consider joining our wonderful group of volunteer tutors. We are one of the few free programs available to help adults in our area, so we always have a need for new tutors. No experience is necessary.

Tutor Training

We offer our New Tutor Training three times a year in the spring, summer, and fall.

Our New Tutor Training consists of three, two-and-a-half -hour sessions, which cover the basics of working with our literacy students. New tutors must attend all three sessions before being matched with a student. No teaching or tutoring experience is necessary, but experience is considered when matching tutors with students.

We also offer regular Tutor Support Meetings throughout the year for tutors to share their experiences and to explore topics and materials to assist tutors as they work with their students.

If you’d like to volunteer with our program, please contact the Literacy Program at 215-885-5183 or send an email to ablit1@yahoo.com.
